At The Thistle Shed, your local Cupar florist, I believe flowers should bring joy — not just to the people who receive them, but to the planet too. As florists, we work closely with nature every day, and it’s only right that we give a little back. That’s why sustainability sits at the heart of everything I do, from the way I source my stems to how we wrap your bouquets.
Here’s how I’m helping to make floristry in Fife more eco-friendly, one beautiful bunch at a time.
🌿 Locally Grown & Seasonal Flowers
Whenever possible, I use locally grown, seasonal flowers sourced from small British growers — many right here in Fife and across Scotland. Choosing Scottish flowers means fewer air miles, less packaging, and fresher, longer-lasting blooms.
Each season brings something special:
- Spring: tulips, narcissi, and delicate ranunculus
- Summer: sweet peas, cornflowers, and garden roses
- Autumn: dahlias, berries, and richly coloured foliage
- Winter: evergreens, pine, and dried textures for festive designs
By working with what’s naturally in season, we create designs that feel authentic, sustainable, and full of local charm.
🌍 Reducing Floral Foam & Plastic Waste
I only use floral foam when absolutely necessary. That’s why there are no baskets or hat box style arrangements in my shop. Instead, I design using reusable and compostable mechanics like chicken wire, moss, and eco-friendly bases.
All my packaging is either recyclable, biodegradable, or reusable. I use kraft paper, raffia ties, reusable ribbon and compostable wraps instead of plastic sleeves — proving you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for sustainability.
💐 Reusing, Repurposing & Composting
I believe sustainability is about thoughtful choices. Green waste from our studio is composted, and I reuse vases, props, and mechanics for weddings, workshops, and events.
After larger events, I encourage couples to donate or repurpose their flowers — turning centrepieces into smaller bouquets for care homes or community groups. It’s a lovely way to give your flowers a second life and spread even more joy.
🌱 Mindful Floristry in Cupar
Sustainability isn’t about perfection — it’s about progress. Every flower I choose, every ribbon I tie, and every supplier I work with is carefully considered.
When you order from The Thistle Shed, you’re not just buying flowers — you’re supporting a small, independent florist in Cupar that’s committed to ethical, planet-friendly floristry.
🌼 Flowers That Feel Good
I’m proud to be part of a growing movement of eco-friendly florists in Scotland who believe beautiful flowers shouldn’t cost the earth. The Thistle Shed mission is simple: to work with nature, not against it — creating floral designs that feel as good as they look.
Because sustainability isn’t just a trend for us — it’s the future of floristry.
